00:00
hello my name is Kat and today I’ll be
00:02
showing you how to make your own DIY
00:04
palette and crate bed frame it’s an
00:06
ideal frame for storage purposes and
00:08
will save you tons on an expensive bed
00:10
frame because I’m working with minimal
00:13
space I will be working right where I
00:15
put my bed first I have to move
00:18
everything out of the way and create
00:21
room for me to make the frame my cats
00:26
decided they wanted to help me move
00:28
stuff to get started you will need to
00:34
measure the mattress you will be putting
00:36
on the frame for my bed I needed four
00:38
crates on either side and I was lucky
00:40
enough to have found some at a garage
00:42
sale awhile back when I was driving by
00:44
in order to know how many crates you’ll
00:47
need for each side you’ll have to do
00:50
some math because a few of the crates
00:51
are different sizes you can find some at
00:54
Michael’s Walmart or Target for around
00:56
$10 each or you can hit up your local
00:58
thrift store to see if they have any you
01:01
will also need some boards that are the
01:03
length that the width of your bed is I’m
01:05
using plywood that I cut into one foot
01:08
sections you can leave everything wood
01:11
colored if you want a rustic look or you
01:14
can paint them I used some cheap regular
01:17
white wall paint to get a finished look
01:21
be sure to paint every piece of wood
01:24
twice so that it’s a nice thick coating
01:27
if you decide to paint at all
01:29

02:12
once all of your boards and crates are
02:15
painted let them dry for at least a few
02:17
hours I let mine dry for four hours
02:19
total and had a fan blowing on them to
02:21
speed up the process then you will start
02:24
securing the crates together I decided
02:25
to line mine up the long way because it
02:27
was perfect length for my bed but if you
02:30
need to you can put them together the
02:32
short way to secure the crates together
02:34
you will need some long screws I’m just
02:37
using decking screws I’m also using a
02:41
hammer drill to make the screws go in
02:43
easier you can also pre-drill the holes
02:46
so that the screws don’t split the wood
02:48
but with a hammer drill it’ll go in
02:51
easier don’t forget it’s not a bad thing
03:07
to put in a bunch of screws the more
03:10
screws you have the better it will hold
03:11
together and so you won’t have to worry
03:14
about repairing it later on

05:01
when you have secured all of the crates
05:03
together lay them down so that the open
05:05
ends of the crates face away from the
05:07
middle then lay your boards on top of
05:09
them
05:10
I suggest measuring one last time to
05:12
make sure everything is the right size
05:13
before screwing the boards on I also
05:16
made sure that the pieces where where I
05:18
wanted them to stay so I wouldn’t have
05:20
to move the bed frame later I am doing
05:22
this project all alone so if it’s a
05:25
heavy bed frame I’m not going to be able
05:26
to move it on my own very easily

05:58
the last step is to screw the boards on
06:01
to the crates it is important not to
06:03
screw where other nails or screws might
06:05
be so check where you’re putting them
06:06
first
06:07
you should put at least three screws
06:09
into each board make sure all the boards
06:12
are spaced out well so your mattress is
06:14
supported throughout once the final
06:16
screw and then you can put the mattress
06:17
back on and set your bed up how you like
06:20
the large opening in the middle is a
06:22
great place to store clothing for the
06:24
offseason or crafting items that you
06:26
don’t
06:28
[Music]
06:45
and here’s the finished product it’s
06:48
simple to do and you can do it on your
06:50
own if you don’t have a way to cut wood
06:52
remember you can always get it cut at
06:54
the Home Depot for a small fee I’m
06:56
really happy with how this veteran
06:58
turned out if you need more storage try
07:01

07:05
